CVS again

When I checked my email this morning I found my first CVS Extra coupon and I was so excited I had to run right out and shop. We have a CVS that is just a few minutes away so I can go there without feeling like I'm wasting gas. I got some good bargains and great ECBs back, but it always surprises me how quickly things add up.

I split my trip into 2 transactions.

Transaction # 1

4 - 12 packs of coke for $11.00
1 orbitz gum big pack $ 2.00
1 eclipse gum big pack $ 2.00
1 gold emblem candy $ .88
1 gold emblem candy $ .88
1 cvs band aid 40ct $ 1.99
1 cvs band aid 40ct $ 1.99
1 brut deod. $ 3.29
1 cvs cot. swab 625 ct. $ 3.99
1 cvs baby powder $ 3.99
total $32.01
used coupons
.55 off brut
1.00 off 2 gold emblem candy
3.00 off $10.00 of CVSproducts
5.00 off $30.00 purchase (coupon CVS emailed me)
- 9.55 coupons
22.46 left then I used $15.00 in ECB's.
My out of pocket with tax was $ 7.72.
I received $3.00 ECB for coke, $ 3.98 for the band aids, $ 3.00 for the brut & $2.00 for the cotton swabs, plus built points towards the candy ECB's.
Transaction # 2
2 packs M&M dark chocolate $ 1.00
1 Gillette razor $ 9.99
1 box of goobers candy $ 1.00
1 box thin mints $ 1.00
1 box CVS band aids $ 1.99
1 Nivea shave gel $ 2.99
1 Nivea shave gel $ 2.99
1 Nivea shave gel $ 2.99
2 Garnier nut. micro bead scrub $11.98 ($5.99 each)
total $35.93
used coupons
$ 1.00 off dark M&M's
$4.00 off Gillette razor
$4.00 off Nivea
$4.00 off Nivea
$ 35.93
-13.00 coupons
22.93 left then I used the $11.98 in ECB's I'd just earned.
My out of pocket with tax was $12.38. That's a higher then normal amount for me to spend out of pocket, but I got a lot of ECB's back. $5.00 for the Nivea (which with the coupons made the 3 shave gels free plus overage), $5.00 for the candy, $1.99 for the band aids, $10.00 for the Garnier and $4.00 for the Gillette razor. So I've built my ECB's up to $25.99 which is pretty good.
I normally wouldn't have bought soda or candy, but we have a lot of barbecues this time of year so I'll save having bought the soda cheap. We are also taking the kids to the movies so we'll splurge for popcorn and a soda and bring the candy. Yes I know we aren't supposed to smuggle in contraband to the theater, but with 3 kids it's the only way we can do it.

I also have 1.76 towards the buy $10.00 of candy and get $5.00 in ECBs and almost two dollars towards another buy $10.00 of Nivea and get $5.00 in ECBs. I also have 2 more $4.00 of nivea coupons that I'll use in my trip tomorrow. I'm getting better at figuring out what to buy in each transaction to have the least amount of out of pocket expense.

If you can log onto different computers or figure out how to beat their system (usually I can, but didn't have much patience this week to do it) you can go to and print 2 $1.00 coupons per computer.

I will admit that I am addicted to CVS. My shopping trip tonight was no big deal, but I always leave CVS with a smile. I bought 2 bottles of Dawn Ultra and 2 bottles of Listerine Berry Rinse for Kids. The Dawn was 2/2.00 and I had 2/.25 cent coupons. Two came to $1.50. The Listerine was $3.49 for each and I had 2/1.00 coupons. The two Listerines came to $4.98. I used $4.00 in ECB's and spent $2.81 out of pocket. Then I got $7.98 back in ECB's! I can't wait to go back tomorrow when the new deals go into effect. That should be a great trip, I'll keep you posted!

Publix shopping trip

I think I did pretty good on my latest trip to Publix. I bought everything pictured for $9.60!
They had some great buy one get one free deals and I used my coupons.
-Lucky Charms & Cinnamon Toast Crunch were buy 1 get 1 and came to 3.99 for 2. I used 2/ .55 cents off so it came to $2.66.
-Nesquik chocolate milk was $1.oo each. I had 3/ .50 cents off coupons that should have been $1.50 off, but somewhere between the car and the checkout I lost one coupon so I only got $1.00 off, Total was $2.00 for 3.
-Yoplait gogurt was buy one get one for $2.89. With 2/ $1.00 off coupons both Gogurts came to .89 cents.
-Ronzoni pastina was buy one get one so both boxes came to $1.39. The kids love sweet pastina for breakfast so that will be a nice treat for them.
-The best deal was the Kashi Granola bars, they were buy 1 get one at $3.69. I had 2/$2.00 off coupons that publix gave me full credit for. So after $4.00 in coupons the Kashi bars were free with a .31 cent overage!
- I splurged on cola for .69.
If my calculations are right I got $33.55 (before tax) worth of groceries for $9.60!

More difficult then expected

OK I'll admit it, this blogging isn't as easy as I'd hoped. Well the actual blogging is easy, but setting up the rest of the page, not so much. It doesn't help that I have a million ideas in my brain that I want to get out. I'm a little short in the patience department and want everything layed out perfectly right away. But I'm taking a deep breath and trying again. I guess I'll start with trying to figure out how to put a title that can be clicked on to bring you to another page. Then I'll work on if I can link to other websites. Wish me luck!

The Beginning

Welcome to my blog. This is my first blog and I am excited to share what I have learned about shopping, saving and life. As a wife and mom of 3 I've always tried to make our dollars stretch as far as possible. With my part time job now in danger of disappearing (I work 3 days a week in the construction industry) I have tightened our belt even more. With one more day of school for the kids I hope to have a little more time at home to get this blog up and running in the next few days. Thanks for stopping by and I hope you'll check back again.
